The Alternative Birthday Party from Hell?

I find it funny that my show was happening on my friend's birthday. I figured it would be cute to make this episode a "birthday party." I think I played a pretty good mixture of music. I mean though some parts had dance music, obviously, most of it wasn't for dancing. Some of the songs were direct messages to my friend. I approached things like as if it were a mix tape. Part of the fun with making a mix tape is that you throw on some good songs, some stuff that person likes, some stuff that you yourself like and things you think this person should hear. On top of that, you can put a few songs on there that have some sort of message. In a way, this was a mix tape birthday gift. I just hope my friend received my message loud and clear.

Here is the playlist:

1. Ryan Adams - To Be Young (is to be sad, is to be high)
2. The Cult - Wild Flower
3. Interpol - Narc
4. Tears for Fears - Head over Heels
5. INXS - Disappear
6. The Pixies - Here Comes Your Man
7. The Replacements - I'll Be You
8. Jawbreaker - West Bay Invitational
9. Hot Rod Circuit - The Power of Vitamins
10. The White Stripes - Fell in Love with a Girl
11. Joey Ramon - What a Wonderful World
12. Ben Lee - Birthday Song *for Spam
13. The Knife - Heartbeats (live at the BBC)
14. Stars - Elevator Love Letter
15. Psychedelic Furs - Love My Way
16. The Sugarcubes - Birthday
17. The Cure - Just Like Heaven
18. Goldfrapp - Number 1
19. Madonna - Holiday
20. Depeche Mode - World In My Eyes
21. Electronic - Disappointed
22. The Smiths - Boy With a Thorn in His Side
23. Elvis Costello - High Fidelity
24. The Clash - Train in Vain
25. She Wants Revenge - It's Just Begun

As for this coming Wednesday, I'm in the mood to play all sorts of stuff. I just saw Tiger Army at the Black Cat this past Friday (October 12th). The Static Age and Street Dogs were the opening acts. All three bands were awesome. I sometimes forget how much I love punk. Also, this coming Thursday, I'm seeing the Wallflowers (one of the first bands I was ever madly in love with) at the 9:30 Club. With that in mind, I figure it would be cool to play a few different genres or whatever. I just want to play good music that matters.

Now as for music you should check out- I recommend Bettye LaVette's new album The Scene of the Crime, Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger (though if you're reading this, I imagine you've been listening to this one since June), and She Wants Revenge - This is Forever.

I think that's it for now! Please tell all your friends about my radio show and make sure to tune in Wednesday morning 8 am to 10 am, est. Online at www.wmucradio.com

Take care,
Megan
