Uh Oh, Somebody's got the Mundies...

Mondays are interesting to me. Not only do i have back to back classes, but I am pratically gone all day. I have a three hour class that is pretty cool though, so it is a tolerable long day. Last semester, my show was on 8 to 10 am on Monday Mornings. I'm still amazed I did that time spot as well as I did. At 9 am this morning, I had discussion class for Astronomy 100 (my last "core" class ever!). I have to give my TA a lot of credit, she plays music while kids are coming into class and it's actually really good music. She kicked it off with Queen's "Somebody to Love" and the other song that played was Tina Turner's cover of "Proud Mary." I'll say this, the Tina Turner got me awake! I'm thinking of making my TA a mix cd with this lovely disco song that I have by Freddie Mercury.

Looking back this year on musical adventures, I realized that today marks seven months since I interviewed She Wants Revenge. It's kinda weird to realize it's been that long. Then again, it feels like it had just happened and it also feels like it was ages ago. For those who don't know She Wants Revenge is essentially two very cool guys...Adam and Justin. When I interviewed them at the black cat, I wasn't sure what to ever expect. I thought for sure they would be jerks to me. Boy was I wrong! The interview was a lot of fun. It was almost like a discussion to a certain extent. These guys are serious about music. We talked about everything from their music to billie holiday and rites of spring. I jokingly say that they're the band for music geeks.

Later on during the show, Adam dedicated my favorite song off of their album to me (which is "someone must get hurt" a rather new order-ish song that is chillingly good). I figured he was just trying to be nice. Well, it gets even better... after the show was over, I ended up hanging out with them and the Electric Six for the rest of the night. Well, mostly I hung out with Adam and Justin, but I did dance with the guitarist from E6.

I also realized that SWR are the real thing. The energy in their live shows are great. I've seen them four times so far this year. Each time, I've had something cool happen. But aside from that, they are fun live and are very energetic. Interpol just stare at the floor when they play. SWR bring the house down. (btw, ditto on another band who are considered interpol wannabes... Editors have an insanely good live show)

This past summer, I saw SWR twice. They opened for Depeche Mode back in late may. Justin gave me a shoutout, which was totally unexpected. My mother said I looked like I was going to faint. I was just watching the show with my mom, sister and friend andy. They had just finished a song and out of nowhere I hear "Hey Megan. I know you're out there tonight. I wanted to say hi, thanks for supporting us. We know your birthday is coming up and we love you..." I think I had a damn good reason to almost faint! (It was funny too because My birthday isn't until July 23rd. So Justin was a little early to say the least.) My friends who were down in front of the stage started cheering for me and justin was like "hey look megan, they love you too." I think I was embarased, but just shocked as well. I've never had a band in my "career" give me a shoutout, let alone one in front of like 5,000 people! Let's just say people on the offical Depeche Mode Message Board talked about me for about a week.

Back in July, they came back to a small club in Baltimore. The show was only 10 days before my 21st birthday, so I figured that I might as well make the show my "birthday party." (I got the idea from the time my friend liz had her birthday at the black cat when Tiger Army played there back in 2005.) It was a pretty fun time, especially since my friend Sami showed up. We had cupcakes with the band.

I am now going to do homework. (yes even future editors of rolling stone magazine have homework to do. okay i was just full of myself right there, but i can dream, right???)
